It is a genuine, renovated, Old Havana building but certainly not over-renovated, retaining as it does, genuine Havana character. Location is excellent, all the main sights within walking distance (for us 70 year olds). We were two floors up in a property with very high ceilings but no problem as staff carried our baggage up and down. Our room was large with two floor to ceiling double shuttered doors/windows each with a small balcony. Some rooms have a slightly larger balcony allowing for two chairs and a table. Air-conditioning was quiet and effective when needed. During the day, being in the heart of the Old Town, it could be fairly noisy but amazingly quiet when it mattered - at night.
Breakfast was a set one delivered course by course (five, I think) to your table which can be on one of the three small balconies overlooking the active (people not traffic) street below and it was excellent.
Finally the staff. They were exceptional, several spoke good English and could not do enough to make your stay a success. We had a couple of personal problems and Chris in particular was brilliant at helping to sort these out.
Bottom line - 5 stars well deserved.

We had a excellent breakfast every day, with coffee and juice, vegetables, bread, marmalade, cheese and eggs madein every way we wanted.
The stuff is very nice and helpful.
Most of the sightseeing places are reachable in walking distance. A lot of restaurants and bars are around, for covid they were all cclosed, but the stuff organised take away for us and made delicious cocktails at the hotel bar.
We will get back to this place when covid is over and enjoy real Habana life there. We recommend this place for having a great time in Havanna! More

  We stayed at the Hostal Balcones Muralla for 4 nights as a couple and it was our first time in Cuba. Based in old Havana it was the perfect base... read more for going out to explore the city. The staff were very friendly and so helpful, assisting in booking one classic car tour we did, arranging airport pick up as well as giving recommendations for local restaurants and where we could find essentials like SIM cards. They were always around 24/7 to answer our questions or make us a cocktail on the balcony. The room was as described with air-con & a lovely balcony. Unfortunately there was noise from the street in the evenings, but that tended to die down before midnight and we understood it was nothing the hotel could control.
Would recommend to anyone travelling or planning a holiday in Havana to get a real taste of Cuban life. Would happily return and start there again.
